Phenomenal start! – Mixed Match Challenge 09/18 Review

Two matches start the second season off and the Phenomenal One brings the fire!
Oh, there‘s also cat ears.
Find out more by reading on!

First things first, Team Little Big isn‘t a thing anymore! Alexa Bliss got injured and therefore Ember Moon will take her place.
So, if you know this in advance, why do you have promos for Team Little Big?
I don‘t get it!
Or did they not know until five minute before the show?
I don‘t really like this.
It sucks!
What‘s also really weird is that because this is a Facebook thing they have a recap for every single team.
Yeah, I guess they have to account for people just watching and not being into wrestling.
Is this a thing?
Do people just randomely watch something because it‘s on Facebook live and not because they‘re interested in it?
If so this is not a concept I can wrap my head around.
Okay, so, there‘s gonna be two matches on each episode as far as I can tell.
There‘s two divisions now, SmackDown and Raw and I‘m not so sure what they are competing for.
You know, last year the point was that the winner would get to donate a substantial amount of money to their chosen charity.
And now?
They haven‘t told me so far!
I guess that doesn‘t matter now because it‘s time to take a look at the matches.

Braun Strowman and Ember Moon vs. Kevin Owens and Natalya:

While I think it would be way more interesting to have Raw teams go against SmackDown teams and not wait for that until the finale they thought it‘d be better to have show exclusive match ups.
Yeah, because we totally haven‘t seen enough of Braun versus Kevin.
The event isn‘t elimination based anymore.
Instead we now have a point system.
ember gets her team the first point by jumping on Natty from up on Braun‘s broad monster shoulders.
Maybe it‘s all Kevin‘s fault?
He didn‘t want to fight Braun for the same reason why I think it‘s a bit boring: they‘ve already had so many matches and fights against each other.
Also, before I tak about the other team how stupid of a name is Team Pawz?
sorry, but they‘re not gonna get far with that kind of name!
And what about the team up of Braun and Ember?
First of all it‘s weird to see Braun acting like a face when he is clearly portraying a bad guy now.
That alone would have made Alexa the perfect partner.
And speaking of Bliss, no matter what Ember will throw at us this team will never be as awesome as Little Big!
They just don‘t share the same charisma.
It‘s unfortunate timing that Alexa got injured.
I‘m also wondering what this‘ll mean for Evolution?
She was set to face Trish Stratus, right?
What type of injury is it?
Will she be able to compete?
Was this a kayfabe injury and the plan had been all along to replace her with someone?
Did they do it to drive home how strong Ronda is?
Usually they tell us the injury if it‘s something serious, so I‘m cautiously optimistic that she‘ll be back come Evolution.
I hope she will because I really wanted to see her fight Trish!
This match that we had here was entertaining enough and to me that‘s the whole point of Mixed Match Challenge.
It‘s just fun and show cases some match ups that we don‘t get to see too often.

Jimmy Uso and Naomi vs. AJ Styles and Charlotte:

Speaking of not happening too often, I‘m okay with same show match ups if it‘s between a singles guy and a tag guy.
Because Jimmy is usually only fighting with his brother and not alone we didn‘t get to see him fight AJ yet.
This makes this fresh and me excited to see this.
This phenomenal match (pardon the pun) is the very definition of what I meant earlier with this show being both fun and interesting.
Not only did we have a pairing that we don‘t get to see too often we also got to see the wrestlers just having fun with each other.
The girls jumped on the guys, they fell on each other, Jimmy put on Natalya‘s cat ears and him and AJ just brought the fight to each other!
This was marvelous!
AJ and Charlotte win in the end but it‘s not the end for Naomi and Jimmy yet.
Pretty sure they‘ll win eventually.
This was one heck of a fun match!

I still haven‘t figured out completely how this tournament is supposed to work and what even is the point of it other than fun, but I enjoyed myself.
It feels to me as if the wrestlers are way more loose and they aren‘t as set in what they have to do as they are on the usual programs.
This in my opinion leads to a much more enjoyable product where you can see that the performers are clearly enjoying themselves.
After all, that‘s what you want to see!
Really cool and fun matches that the competitors also happen to enjoy!
I‘m not sure if Braun and Ember are going to win though, because to me Moon just can‘t compare to Alexa.
Sorry.
However, I‘m fairly certain that AJ and Charlotte will achieve quite a lot here.
Maybe they‘ll even win.
Yeah, I‘m picking them to win it all.
Good episode and I‘ll surely be watching again next week!

How did you enjoy the first episode of season two?
A lot or not at all?
Do you like the Alexa Bliss replacement or are you sad about it just like me?
Let me know!
Feel free to share my report with your friends.
I‘ll see you tomorrow for 205!
NXT will be out on Saturday due to the change in schedule.
Have a great day!
